Encapsulations of some traditional stories explaining the origin of the Earth, its life, and its peoples
There are many stories from legend and myth about our creation. Here is a collection of the lesser known (In the Christian World) from around the world. It would seem that people (no matter what race, creed or colour) need to believe in the creation. Personally I believe that all those 1000's of years ago as they sat around their camp fires staring at the vast universe above them it was easy to talk about the "where did we come from, why are we here?"
To test this theory, stand outside on a cloudless night and stare at our night sky. Then try to tell me that your thoughts didn't drift into the "Why am I here?". Today, we know more about the universe and it's size. We have no comprehension on how to understand this. No way of understanding that travelling at the speed of light it will still take us 4 1/2 years to reach the closest star.
Why are we here?
Anyone in the U.S. who teaches about the geological or biological history of our planet is faced with students who have already concluded that creationism explains the history of the earth. One of the questions that perplexes me is how such students can conclude that their ethnic or religious group has the complete explanation of the origin of the earth and its life, when so many ethnic or religious groups have so many different accounts of those origins.
